by Kathy Patalsky ยท updated: May 18, 2022 ยท published: Apr 13, 2009 ยท About 1 minute to read this article. 13 Comments

Here's the official results for my ongoing Most Feared, Hated and Loved Veggie Survey:

Most FEARED: Okra
Runners Up: Fennel, Artichoke

Most LOVED: Mushrooms
Runners Up: Asparagus, Spinach

Click ahead for MOST HATED VEGGIE...

And the most hated veggies, according to the 200+ survey participants are.....

Most HATED: Iceberg Lettuce
Runners Up: Brussel Sprouts, Kale

But what about those cool crunchy iceberg lettuce salads?
And a nice firm bitter tender brussel sprouts?
And a tender garlic or citrus flavored bowl of kale?

...well I do have my eggplant issues. We all have veggie issues.

As promised, more recipes featuring these veggies to come.

...what to do with OKRA???

Any ideas?

I love okra any way you can make it! Lightly coated in cornmeal and fried; pickled; stuffed with masala and browned; in a spicy Mauritian tomato sauce...Mmmm my FAVORITE vegetable!

If you don't want to fry okra, make fritters with it (like you would with zucchini, for example). My South Georgia grandmother makes heavenly ones. Start with small, fresh okra pods, slim them thin, and aim for more okra than breading in the finished product. mmm!

Okra? It is one of the most loved vegetables in India. Each region of the country prepares this delectable vegetable in a delicious way.Don't like any veggie, try cooking it the Indian way ๐Ÿ™‚

What to do with okra - if it is fresh and smaller pods, a very quick saute is very nice! A little olive oil, garlic, and a pinch of crushed red pepper is all you need! Don't cook them more than 4-5 minutes, you want crisp-tender. Or I personally love pickled okra, which is also a treat!
And I heard the House comment about kale too - Kale gets such a bad rap, and it's tasty!

Did anyone else catch the kale joke on House last night? "so bland it doesn't even taste like kale." I disagree MOST heartily. Kale is in my top 5 for sure!

I agree! Kale was my first more exotic than lettuce green veggie that I fell in love with as a kid in California. I would request it every night! With a dash of apple cider vinegar, olive oil and garlic. Yum.

As a Texan okra is to be used for one thing only: FRIED OKRA.

kale is a runner up? no way. kale was the second green leafy veg that didn't make we want to gag (first being spinach)

I LOVE okra!! I usually stew it with tomatoes, roast it, or boil it (occasionally I want a little bit of sliminess in my life!). The key with okra is choosing the small pods - the big ones are woody.

Okra is delicious if it's fried. I guess that defeats the whole purpose! ๐Ÿ™‚
