Bourdain vs. Waters. Live! You may have heard of the ongoing clash between the sometimes 'ditsy' know-where-your-food-comes-from advocate Alice Waters and the I hate anything good for me by principle, celebrity chef/author/TV host, Tony Bourdain. Last winter, Tony said some not so nice comments about Alice Waters and in turn felt the public wrath of her many garden-growing followers. To put it 'nicely', Tony said Alice annoyed him. The full quote here.
Round Two. So last week when Tony and Alice (and Duff Goldman) shared a stage at the Connecticut Forum's Food for Thought Forum Panel Discussion, they spoke to a sold out audience, no doubt hoping for a little controversial clean fun (or dirty Bourdain-style) debating. The audience was well rewarded with a clash of the foodie titans. Click ahead for a video of Alice and Tony discussing the virtues and inner morals of...a hot dog...
Save the Cupcakes. Ban the Truffle Oil. Not only did hot dogs come up, when asked what food trends each of the panelists would ban, 'Ace of Cakes' star Duff Goldman had an answer that might upset the folks at Babycakes: cupcakes! Alice answered Fusion cooking and Tony said Truffle oil. Read more here: Eat Me Daily.

Don't know when it's gonna happen, but subsidizing "real" food will be the turning point of our health. Unfortunately, I think it'll be childhood diabetes, etc. until that happens. People today have a hard time seeing how paying more now, means paying less later (in medical costs), and also may not have the budget(now) to pass up that 99 cent chicken (gross!)

Cupcakes? Really, Duff? I guess he hasn't figured out how to use his power tools with them yet, thereby causing the hate.

Tony has a very important point that maybe he wasn't able to put into clear enough words. Billions of people around the world are able to eat every day as a result of industrial agri-business. It might be unfortunate and ugly, but it's true. Healthy, real food is WAY more expensive that processed shit. Alice, to her credit, raised the point that maybe we need to figure out a way to turn that around.

I love Alice Waters! She is a bit aloof, but her accomplishments and views are untouchable. Tony is just being rude. Poor Alice!

I think Tony is wrong about health values of food. But he is right. Alice Waters annoys everyone except 60 year old ladies. No offense.

That is great! Tony has a point, but so does Alice. Why does Tony try so hard to cheer for unhealthiness, then he goes and says he feeds his daughter healthy organic foods! What's up wth that???
