I give you Pigs in a Blanket - traditionally made with buttery crescent rolls, melted cheddar cheese and a warm toasty, savory hot dog bundled inside. Well YES "Pigs in a Blanket" can be made vegan! This is a quickie post with a party recipe you just have to try to believe!..
"I love pigs. In a blanket."
For quick, easy and totally cravable "pigs" in under 20 minutes - grab these products at the store and make this recipe!! (I shopped at Whole Foods)
Three Ingredients:
1. Daiya Cheddar Cheese Shreds.
2. Field Roast Frankfurter "hot dogs." (any vegan hot dogs will work - many brands out there!)
3. Immaculate Baking Crescent Rolls.
Now we all know that Field Roast and Daiya products are all totally 100% vegan. The Immaculate Baking rolls might concern you if you read the package because they say (may contain milk.) BUT if you visit the website the FAQs section explains that this merely means that the rolls may have been made on equipment shared with dairy products. So in theory they are milk-free. HOWEVER if you have a true dairy allergy you may want to skip these. But for my vegan recipe purposes these are PERFECT!
And also .. there is also chatter that Pillsbury's crescent rolls ARE vegan. PPK forum on this.
OK...
So..
Easy as 1,2,3
Vegan Pigs in a Blanket
vegan, makes 8 party piggies
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with foil - or grease it lightly.
2. Pop and roll out your crescents. Assemble your piggies! Slice the "dogs" into either halves or quarters and roll them into the triangle crescents with a pinch of vegan Daiya cheese.
3. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
Serve! Swoon. Party.
ps. This post is dedicated to my BFF Jen who I know loves the classic party snack food. All 'the girls' made and served "Pigs in a Blanket" at her bachelorette brunch and I really wanted to veganize them ever since then!
pps. sorry for the totally-not-like-me un-pro photos. We gobbled these up and the sun had already set. So these were taken aglow with holiday lights lighting..
ppss. What is your FAVORITE non-vegan party food? Maybe I will veganize it in a future post! #takingrequests
pppsss. Oh. So if you wanted to get all fancy with this recipe, sure you could make your own crescent rolls or just use rollable biscuit dough + make homemade seitan hot dogs/rolled seitan and such. But easy peasy is how I like my vegan piggies.
ppppsss. holiday snuggles to all. and to all a good night 🙂 ..

The Immaculate website says their crescents may contain milk. That is a huge red flag to me, not just because I am vegan; I am allergic to both casein and lactose.
Kathy Patalsky says
That usually means products were made using shared equipment. So yes, for someone with an allergy you would need to be aware of that.

That is an interesting interpretation. The Annie's biscuits state they are made on shared equipment, not that they may contain milk. I read those statements to mean two different things.

Geez I would love to make all these recepies but in my country there aren't any vegan products, It's so hard, you guys have vegan cheese, and vegan hot dogs. You want a vegan hot dog in Argentina? Eat a celery stick. oh wait we don't even have celery. Just cows. 🙁

What you don't have veggies, rice, beans, pasta, grains, fruits ???? BULLSHIT!!! Everybody can be vegan if he wants,I am not loaded with money but that doesn't stop me to do this.Btw it is A LOT more expensive to buy meat then rice.So what are u saying. You failed as a troll.Sorry.

Unnecesarily aggressive response here. I'm sure it's not that there are no veggies, rice, beans, pasta, grains and fruits just that there are no additional products to mix things up a bit. I also fail to see how the cost of being vegan is relevant to the comment.

awesome comment! Thanks so much for the info. I agree, the possibilities for these crescent rolls... endless!! I will probably feature them again. Some sort of tart would be yummy. Savory or sweet! So many ideas. They are a super company! 🙂

I just discovered that Immaculate Baking had these. I called and asked about their ingredients and said they have to say that it may contain milk because they use the same equipment for their dairy products, BUT... they did say that they still clean the equipment down thoroughly between making their different products, so it's unlikely that they have milk in it. But like you said, if you have a hard core sensitivity then you might have to stay away. But the company said they clean it pretty thoroughly, but of course they still have to put that on the packaging for obvious security and health reasons. BUT to get to my question... since finding out about some of their vegan options like the crescent rolls, and the cinnamon rolls, and even some of their scones!... I've been searching for vegan recipes to utilize their vegan crescent rolls, but couldn't/can't find much. Thanks for this recipe though! Like I said I've been searching for some that utilize their rolls. I wanted to run the idea by you of maybe doing a blog post on multiple quick easy recipes that can use the rolls as well. I'm thinking maybe quick mini vegan pizza's or something? I don't know. Just throwing the idea out there. Or maybe even a breakfast pastry or pop tart type thing? Oh or even maybe some vegan hot pocket recipe using the crescent rolls? Sorry I have all these ideas, but of course no ability to execute them, which is why I'm proposing this stuff to you. lol You're the expert. Anyway, thanks again for the post/recipe.

Sweet and sour meatballs- how would you make that vegan?

These are so cute! I am not big on faux meats, but I may have to make an exception for these 😀
