ChocoCado. Chocolate Avocado Smoothie. Protein-Infused.

by Kathy Patalsky · updated: Mar 23, 2020 · published: Nov 12, 2012 · About 2 minutes to read this article. 10 Comments

On super busy days, sometimes I just need a really easy boost of energy to keep me powering through the day. I love smoothies for this type of craving. And smoothies with avocado are pretty fantastic. My smoothies need to satisfy in two ways - 1) they must taste amazing! 2) they should make me feel good from the inside out.

This creamy chocolate shake does both those things.

So for a quick, delicious, energizing boost, blend up this rich and chocolate-y ChocoCado Vegan Protein Shake. Creamy and satisfying with a cravable chocolate flavor...

Into the Vitamix. I added a few frozen grapes too..

You could also add in a handful of greens like kale or spinach. The greens blend very well into this chocolate shake!

For my shake, I used Vega's energizing chocolate protein powder, but I have a modified recipe version for you as well.

ChocoCado Vegan Protein Shake

⅓ - ½ avocado (use ½ for small avocados, ⅓ for larger sizes)
1 cup ice cubes
¾ cup water, chilled
1 banana, frozen
1 packet or 1 scoop VEGA Energizing Smoothie in Choc-a-lot flavor OR see notes

optional: 2-4 tablespoon frozen grapes, to add more sweetness and frosty texture

Directions: Blend and serve!

note:
* If you do not have VEGA's chocolate shake powder you can use your own vegan sweetened chocolate-flavored protein powder. Or go protein-free too.

Modified ChocoCado Shake (without VEGA protein powder)

1 cup soy or almond milk, vanilla
1 banana, frozen
⅓ - ½ avocado
1 cup ice
1 tablespoon dark chocolate cacao powder (dairy-free)
1-3 teaspoon agave or maple syrup
protein boost: 1 scoop or your favorite vegan protein powder (hemp, soy, etc..)

optional: 2-4 tablespoon frozen grapes, to add more sweetness and frosty texture

I just made it and I cannot believe how tasty this is! I skipped the grapes and added a little bit of cinnamon. This one of the best smoothies I had made so far. Thank you for sharing, you have one more fan:)

Easy! Just wash them and toss them in freezer. I don't even bother to pluck from stems until I need them. But you could pluck before freezing too. I freeze in a big bowl.

I've been reading your blog for a couple of years now and love your shakes and smoothie recipes. They inspired my to finally buy a Vitamix a few months ago after much debate on purchasing a juicer 😉 Love this breakfast smoothie! *droool 😉
